Towa Bird: supporting Reneé Rapp

Fox Theater (Oakland, CA)
10/03/23

On October 3rd, Towa Bird opened Reneé Rapp’s “Snow Hard Feelings” tour’s second night in Oakland, California with an electrifying set. The singer-songwriter, who originally gained traction online during the pandemic, is heating up the music scene with her original sound and unique approach to guitar. Even though Towa only has three songs out, she left the audience completely mesmerized with her guitar solos. Her setlist included several unreleased songs, including “FML,” “Ew,” “Bills,” and “Drain Me.” It was obvious that the audience had been studying and listening to Towa’s songs online, as everyone was very supportive and knew the chorus to several of her unreleased songs.

During the beginning of the show, as she paraded around the stage playing guitar solos that left me speechless, the fans at the barricade could not contain their screams. There was even a moment between songs where a fan held up a box of cookies, something Towa and Reneé’s other opener, Alexander 23, had requested fans bring to the venue on an Instagram story posted earlier that day. During her hit “Wild Heart,” the crowd jumped up and down along to the beat.

Even with a short set, Towa was able to amp up the audience for the night ahead. Much to the crowd’s delight, Towa made another appearance later on in the show during Reneé’s song “Tummy Hurts.” Fans screamed in delight as the two interacted, ending the song on their knees with their arms around one another. Their hug at the end of the performance solidified the working relationship turned friendship that Towa and Reneé have.

From stellar vocals to guitar solos that will leave you completely speechless, it is obvious that Towa Bird is the next big thing in music. After personally attending the show in Los Angeles, California, as well as both shows in Oakland, California, I will definitely be on the lookout for Towa’s next show in my area!
