Stephen Sanchez: Angel Face

The National (Richmond, VA)
12/18/23

On December 18th, Stephen Sanchez’ highly anticipated “Angel Face” tour wrapped up in Richmond, Virginia. Deemed by the singer himself to be “the best 1950s concert since the 1950s,” tonight’s show is one of the most unique to sell out The National theater in downtown Richmond. Stephen has had such quick success, from releasing his debut single in 2020, to performing his captivating music to sold-out crowds across North America just three years later.

A classic red curtain covering the stage opens to a spotlight on Stephen as he opens the show with “Something About Her,” the first track from his debut album, Angel Face, instantly bringing the venue straight into the ’50s era. Stephen is known to be emulating the vibes of musicians from the ’50s and ’60s, most often compared to Elvis – and his fans love how he is fully leaning into it. The singer and his band, who he calls The Moon Crests, perform nearly the entire Angel Face record, along with songs from his 2021 debut E.P., What Was, Not Now. A handful of covers appear throughout his set, including “Oh, Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison from 1964.

With plenty of international tour dates announced already for 2024, it’s safe to say that Stephen Sanchez is carving out his own spot in the music industry. Angel Face is only his debut album and he’s already performing his classic love songs to sold-out 1,800 capacity venues. Take a listen to Angel Face and be transported to a different era and fall in love with Stephen just like the rest of us have!
