A year ago, I opened up a random playlist. I listened to and skipped a few songs, until I landed on a song by a band called Scowl. I instantly fell in love with their music as I could feel the intensity in every lyric, and they’ve easily become one of my favorite bands out there. Scowl has tested many genres, but at their core, they are a hardcore punk band from California. Formed in 2019, they have rapidly grown over just a few years and continue to catch the eyes and ears of listeners of all genres. Lead vocalist Kat Moss commands a crowd like no other, and with the help of guitarist Malachi Greene, bassist Bailey Lupo, and drummer Cole Gilbert, Scowl puts on a live show unlike any other.

You’ve likely seen Scowl on a tour flyer in the past year or two as they’ve been on the road seemingly nonstop, and even will be performing at Coachella this year, but currently they’re on a full North American tour supporting hardcore noise rock band Show Me The Body. The World War Tour has an absolutely packed lineup – from hip-hop artist TRiPPJONES to the highly anticipated power-violence punk band Zulu.

When Scowl finally took the stage, they proceeded to absolutely pour their hearts into their performance, and the intensity of the crowd only added to the experience. On February 8th, the band released a new single, “Opening Night,” which will be on their upcoming E.P. set to release on April 7th entitled Psychic Dance Routine. Kat asks the crowd a few times if they came here to dance, quickly beginning the performance of the catchy new single. While “Opening Night” has almost no screaming vocals from Kat, it has those distinct hardcore influenced instrumentals that you know and love.

We hope to see even more dance music on Psychic Dance Routine, and it seems that Scowl is not slowing down anytime soon, so I’m sure we can expect even more tour dates in the near future!
