Rett Madison: Winter 2024

The Echo (Los Angeles, CA)
01/26/24

On January 26th, Rett Madison performed at The Echo in Los Angeles, California, fresh off the release of her sophomore album, One for Jackie, from October of last year. Her honest songwriting about her late mother gives listeners a glimpse into her grief and the grieving process.

Kicking off the night was incredible songstress Caity Krone. L.A. born and raised, she played a collection of released and unreleased songs from her upcoming project. Her timeless sound and vulnerable lyrics brought complete silence across the room as the crowd listened intently to every word she sang.

Rett Madison wasted no time coming on stage, with no more than a 15-minute changeover. With a unique tone and raw lyrics, the crowd was silenced within seconds of the first song. In between songs, Madison showcased her sense of humor, cracking jokes with the crowd in an attempt to lighten the mood. My favorite moment of the night was when Madison sang “Flea Market.” Before starting, she told the story behind the song, stating she went to the Los Feliz Flea Market one day and saw the ugliest shirt she had ever seen. After looking at it for a second, she broke down in tears, realizing her mom would have loved the shirt.

Madison’s show provides a safe space to feel the emotions that grief often brings. Even in a room full of strangers, her music brought comfort and healing to everyone in attendance. I highly recommend catching her next tour!
