Peder Losnegård, now known as “Lido”, is a 23-year-old rapper, producer, and songwriter from Norway. He’s worked with other artists like Alt-J, Bastille, Banks, The Weeknd, and Disclosure. Recently, he came out an EP by the name of, The Passion Project, in which I believe will really bring up his career this year.

This EP consists of 5 songs, “Ashley”, “Pillows”, “WTFIMP”, “Lady’s A Hoe”, and “Saved By You”. What I love about all of these songs is that they have a hip-hop and R&B sound to them, very similar to songs by artist Tyrese. They’re all slow jams. Individually, my favorite songs are, “Ashley”, “Pillows”, and “Saved By You”.
“Ashley” is about a waitress he sees at a strip club. He talks about how he could have so many girls, but the only one he wants is this girl, Ashley, that he sees at 2 in the morning. It’s pretty much a love song set in a strip club, which is odd considering this song is actually based on a real life situation! “We started to make the beat but we didn’t really know what to do with it. A bunch of friends of mine called and were like, ‘We’re in L.A., do you want to go to the strip club tonight?’”, Lido told Billboard. There, he saw a beautiful waitress and ending up going back to the studio a couple of hours later to write this song. The lyrics aren’t what I’d like to focus on, I’d like to talk about the beat. This song has a great beat; it starts off very smooth and sweet, but then drops into a real up-beat song. It’s a song you could dance, sing, and overall just jam out to. This song is actually my top favorite and will definitely be on repeat!

“Pillows” is another song that’s great to just dance around to. I really like how chill, yet up-beat the song is. There are some slight changes in the beat, going from slow to fast, but still staying really smooth. The production of this song is just all in all really good.

“WTFIMP” is another favorite from the EP. The song is about a stressful situation in a relationship; he’s made a mistake and needs to find his phone, hence the name “WTFIMF” (Where The F*** Is My Phone), to call his girl and apologize. A lot of people could relate to this song in the sense of its situation, whether it’s getting into an argument with a friend, boyfriend, or girlfriend. Whoever, we’ve all been put into a bad situation that needs an apology. This song is a little different from the others in terms of the beat, but it’s still really good.
Overall, I really love this EP. It reminds me of songs I grew up listening to, maybe not in the sense of the lyrics, but the R&B sound that’s in all of them. If Lido keeps this up, I just know he’ll be going to even greater places! So, to all you other artists out there… Watch out, here comes Lido.
