The Last Dinner Party: Spring 2024

The Majestic Theatre (Detroit, MI)
03/31/2024

Bringing their second run of shows to North America, The Last Dinner Party – Abigail Morris, Aurora Nishevci, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies, and Lizzie Maylan – commanded the audience in Detroit, Michigan, on March 31st with a theatrical Roman empire-esque aura. From their beginnings in a discount store in Brixton, London, to selling out venues across the world, these five artists are on their way to becoming a household name.

Their set covered the entirety of their latest and debut album, Prelude to Ecstasy, with the opening instrumental acting as an introduction to the band. Walking onto the stage, one by one, the excitement in the room continued to build until frontwoman, Abigail Morris, emerged in a floor length, vintage, ivory gown. With the other four members of TLDP staying in their respective positions on stage, as they all had instruments to play, Morris bounced from left to right, jumped onto the speakers in the pit, and even approached the barricade to sing with fans. The high energy and powerful connection from the entirety of this London-based femme and nonbinary group was beautifully matched by those in attendance, many of whom dressed for the occasion.

At each show, The Last Dinner Party started a campaign in which they coined Ribbons for Provisions. The group encouraged fans to bring food donations and/or sought after provisions to the venue in order to support local food banks in the respective area. In return, those who donated received a colorful ribbon, stamped with “The Last Dinner Party” in a cursive font.

Even though The Last Dinner Party was built around being “gothic,” “indulgent,” and “decadent,” each member radiated kindness and gratitude for those who showed up, danced with them, and supported their music. Of course, there is still a bit of feminine rage mixed in, but who can blame them?

A true performance from start to finish – if you’ve missed The Last Dinner Party this time around, make sure you mark your calendars when they make their next announcement. A TLDP show is an experience you want to be present for and one you definitely will regret skipping out on.
