The Happy Fits: Under the Shade of Green

Grewal Hall (Lansing, MI)
10/21/23

Indie-rock band The Happy Fits made a stop in Lansing, Michigan to help open and introduce a brand new concert venue, Grewal Hall, to the area. Looking a little different than in previous years, The Happy Fits was led by vocalist and cellist Calvin Langman with Raina Mullen on guitar, Trevor Hogan on drums, and Nicole Rosey on guitar that night. Despite the changes, The Happy Fits seem to be better than ever.

Under the strobes of crazy colorful LEDs and with fans screaming every word for the entire ninety minute set, the four-piece played a twenty-song set that included hits like “Dirty Imbecile,” “She Wants Me (To Be Loved)” and “Too Late” that had the brand new floor of Grewal Hall absolutely shaking. They even played a cover of “bad idea right?” by Olivia Rodrigo that was completely unexpected but definitely appreciated. The energy continued to grow throughout the show and was only amplified through an audience that would make any artist envious.

Thanks to The Happy Fits, Grewal Hall now has a reputation as one of the best new venues in mid-Michigan. With a capacity of 900, The Happy Fits brought a brand new audience to the state’s capital and top college town. The Happy Fits are no stranger to playing various Michigan cities, stopping in Detroit and Grand Rapids in recent years, and we hope to see them again very soon!
