Originally from Cuba, Lazaro Arbos and his family moved to Naples, Florida when he was 10-years-old. A little over ten years later, Lazaro took advantage of this opportunity and auditioned for American Idol’s twelfth season. Not much later, Lazaro began to steal the hearts of many with his touching story of growing up with a stutter and his beautiful voice.
Even though he came in 6th place, he continues to shine with his powerful voice! Recently, he performed at the Dunkin’ Donuts 6ABC Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia. He also just released his debut single, “Burn Up The Town”. I expect for you to be seeing a lot more of Lazaro Arbos in 2016.
How did you get your start in music?
Lazaro: I really started to sing when I was 17. When I was 17, I auditioned for a show and I won that show. That was followed by American Idol when I was 21.
How was your experience on American Idol?
Lazaro: It was good! It was definitely a lot of work, but for me didn’t feel like it because I loved being on there so much. Of course, it could get very difficult and the pressure can get you, but it really was a good launching pad.
What artists influence you?
Lazaro: When I was four or five I started to listen to Selena. She’s actually one of the first people I started to learn their songs.
You have a new song out, can you tell us about that?
Lazaro: It’s a very fast paced song - very dancey! I don’t normally write songs like that, but I just fell in love with this beat that was given to me by this producer. I loved it, so I decided to sit down and see if I could come up with anything and I came up with some really cool words and melodies. It’s called “Burn Up The Town”.
Are you going to be releasing any more music?
Lazaro: Yes! My goal is to get a full album. There’s a song that will come after “Burn Up The Town” that’s going to be called “Merry-Go-Round”. That’s more of a love song about my past. I’m really looking forward to sharing that part of me with the world.
