Johnny Orlando: The Ride

The Troubadour (West Hollywood, CA)
09/16/23

On September 16th, Canadian singer-songwriter Johnny Orlando brought the highly anticipated “The Ride” tour to the historic Troubadour in West Hollywood, California. He began his career in 2011 by posting covers on YouTube when he was 8 years old. His first cover racked up 100,000 views in the first month, inspiring him and his sister to continue to create more videos on the platform. Now, at 20 years old with 4.75 million subscribers, Johnny is making a name for himself in the industry, with a group of die-hard fans years in the making.

Fans started lining up in the early morning, hoping to catch a glimpse of the 20 year old entering the venue. As the day went on, more and more people continued to show up early, causing the line to wrap around the building hours before doors were even scheduled to open. As the lights dimmed and the instrumental to Johnny’s song “Boyfriend” began to play, the screaming of the 500-capacity audience bounced off the walls of the Troubadour as it grew louder and louder. Johnny came down the stairs to the beat of the song in a striped button-up shirt and leather pants with a flashy belt, causing the audience to scream even louder. He went on to play the two songs from his latest project, The Ride Part 1, as well as songs he claimed would be on his next project, The Ride Part 2, which he released on September 29th. His sultry and raspy voice danced around the songs flawlessly, keeping everyone yearning to hear more. Much to the audience’s surprise, he played two covers: an acoustic version of “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls and an upbeat cover of “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry. Several TikTokers were in attendance to support their friend, including Bryce Hall, Alex Warren, Benson Boone, and Daniel Seavey, who waved to fans from the VIP section throughout the show.

At just 20 years old, with an album already under his belt, Johnny is proving he is a force to be reckoned with. We highly recommend checking out his music and catching him next time he’s in your city if you want to attend a fun, high energy concert!
