gnash: One Night Only – 5 years of we

The Roxy Theatre (West Hollywood, CA)
01/25/24

On January 25th, gnash played his first show in five years at the legendary Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, California to celebrate the 5th anniversary of his 2019 debut album, we. As I entered the venue, the sold-out crowd was already buzzing with excitement. The stage was stunning, featuring a living floral arrangement as a backdrop. The packed crowd was made up of all ages, some obviously new fans while others were wearing merch from previous tours. The night was stacked with four opening acts: Maddy Hicks, Daniel Leggs, Juliana, and Lily Williams.

The lights eventually dimmed and gnash appeared on stage. He wore a green bomber jacket with flowers on the back, a white T-shirt, denim pants with a floral design, and white socks, while holding an acoustic guitar. There were several surprises in store for the crowd. Ben Abraham came out on stage to sing their song, “dear insecurity,” from we. gnash played “happy never after” for the first time live. During his song “t-shirt,” he threw shirts out into the audience, later revealing that they were options for the music video that they never sold. At the start of the show, gnash asked everyone to sing along with him, revealing that he’d be releasing a live album of the show, which was met with excited shrieks from the room. Towards the end of the night, Olivia O’Brien walked on stage to sing their 2016 hit song, “i hate u, i love u.”

After several years of not performing, it was obvious how much the night meant to gnash. Fans flew in from around the country to celebrate the fifth anniversary of his album, we. It is unclear whether he will announce a nationwide tour anytime in the future, but we hope to catch gnash on stage again soon!
