Dermot Kennedy: Sonder

Arizona Financial Theatre (Phoenix, AZ)
05/20/23

Pop singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy brought his “Sonder” tour to Phoenix, Arizona at the Arizona Financial Theatre this past Saturday, and it is officially on my list of best shows I’ve ever been to. As if Kennedy’s vocals weren’t enough to captivate the crowd for his hour and a half long non-stop set, the show was packed with a gorgeous light show and visuals on a huge screen behind him and his band.

Kennedy’s set list consisted of his hit songs including “Better Days” and “Power Over Me.” A highlight of the night was definitely when he performed his most vulnerable tracks, “Rome” and “Young and Free,” leaving the crowd in tears. Kennedy’s impressive range in his discography shows his passion and talent for music, and his love for his fans shines through as he is on stage. He closed out his show with “Something To Someone,” and had the crowd repeatedly sing the powerful lyric, “Once upon a time, I was something to someone,” making for a beautiful moment to end the show.

Phoenix was only Kennedy’s 8th stop on tour, and he’ll be traveling throughout North America until the end of June. I have had Dermot Kennedy playing on repeat since his Phoenix show, and I look forward to seeing him again!
