Pierce The Veil: Creative Control

Pier Six Pavilion (Baltimore, MD)
06/03/23

The “Creative Control” tour made a stop in Baltimore, Maryland on June 3rd, and after fellow band and co-headliner The Used wrapped up their set, the stage was set for the final band of the night – post-hardcore band Pierce The Veil. The tour follows the long-anticipated release of their newest album, The Jaws of Life, in February this year. It came after a 7-year hiatus from new music by the band, the crowd was eager to hear the new songs live. Pierce The Veil wasted no time in captivating the audience, launching into their set with an explosive energy that ignited the entire venue, opening with “Death of an Executioner” from The Jaws of Life.

Throughout their 10-song set, they played music from their latter four albums (all except for their first album), including “Caraphernelia” from 2010’s Selfish Machines, “Bulls in the Bronx” from 2012’s Collide With The Sky, “Circles” from 2016’s Misadventures, and “Pass The Nirvana” which was the first single from The Jaws of Life. Practically every song was a fan favorite that had the entire audience singing along at the top of their lungs. About halfway through their set, they introduced “Hold On Till May,” a song that has become special with their fans. Frontman Vic Fuentes described it as one “they shared together” and that they “lifted it to a place where [the band] never would have thought themselves.” It is a special moment in their set where they bring up a fan from the crowd and serenade them, and in Baltimore, the lucky fan couldn’t just sit still and instead sang the song right back to Vic, getting up and dancing around the stage.

The electrifying energy continued for the entire hour as guitarist Tony Perry, bassist Jaime Preciado, and drummer Loniel Robinson, along with Vic, created a relentless sonic assault that reverberated through the venue. They closed with “King For A Day,” complete with cryo jets and a mosh pit. It was a collective catharsis as the audience was immersed in an unforgettable experience. To say the least, it has been a triumphant return for Pierce The Veil, proving they will continue to be a mainstay in their genre. The “Creative Control” tour continues through the start of July – don’t miss the chance to see them live!
