On July 19th, dedicated fans traveled out to the “Big Easy” to see Fitz and the Tantrums take the stage at the Civic Theater with Zella Day as their opening act. Raised in Arizona and thriving to make a career out of her love for music, Zella Day took a huge leap in 2012 to become an indie-pop sensation. Zella is known for her melodic, indie sound and her soft yet edgy sense of style. Her most popular hits include “Sweet Ophelia”, “Hypnotic”, and “East of Eden”, all from her debut album Kicker.
She recently released a new single earlier this year in May, “Mustang Kids”. Zella played this new upbeat tune to the ecstatic crowd, and when I say this song was a hit, I mean it literally. During this song, Zella got so into the performance that she actually shattered her tambourine on the stage! This didn’t seem like such a surprise to the band crew as they almost immediately brought another one out for her.
Zella did not disappoint with her high energy, crowd interaction, and natural skill and talent onstage. If you’re looking for new jams for the rest of the Summer (or even the whole year), be sure to check out Zella Day! You can find her on social media and jam all day to her Summer anthems on Spotify.
Founded in 2008 in Los Angeles, CA, Fitz and the Tantrums are a unique blend of soul, indie, and pop music. In 2009, they premiered their first EP, Songs for a Breakup, and next thing they knew, they were touring with Maroon 5 and releasing their very first debut album, Pickin’ Up the Pieces. This album hit number one on Billboard’s Hotseekers chart. In 2013, they released yet another album, More Than Just a Dream, hitting another level of awesome in the ears of their fans. Their most recent self-titled album was released in June of this year.
With tons of screaming fans and insane vibes from Zella Day’s performance, Fitz and the Tantrums took the stage by storm. Once Michael Fitzpatrick (vocals), Noelle Scaggs (vocals), James King (flute, keyboard, saxophone, percussion, and guitar), Jeremy Ruzumna (keyboards), and John Wicks (drums and percussion) stepped foot onstage, the crowd went wild. Colorful lights were surrounding the stage leaving only silhouettes of the band which was purely mesmerizing.
Whilst performing their hits, they interacted with the crowd as if they knew each other forever. They shared laughs and took silly selfies with the audience! There were absolutely no flaws to this show! With a packed venue, overjoyed fans, and super talented musicians, by the end of the night, everyone left with smiles on their faces!
