Love is one of the most powerful human emotions there is. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, a lot of people around this time feel that emotion greatly.
Love is a powerful neurological condition like hunger, but more permanent. It can be as hard to control as the weather outside. Have you ever caught yourself catching feelings for someone you would’ve never expected to? Lust is a temporary feeling, only releasing a few chemicals in your brain, such as estrogen and testosterone, but the feeling of love releases a whole ton of chemicals, such as dopamine and serotonin. Lust is for pleasure, marriage is for the law, but love is for happiness.
Love is a hard thing to discuss, it’s more easily experienced than defined. It is not one defined thing or experience, it develops and grows overtime. It cannot be bought or sold. There are many different types of love and relationships, just as your love for your mom and your love for your partner would be different. Love is a passion; without the passion, it would be solely infatuation.
Self-love is rarely talked about, but is still very important. It is widely believed that a person must love themselves before they can love anyone else; loving yourself can be a hard thing to accomplish, but it is rewarding and necessary.
Love can bring out the worst and best in us. It’s inherently compassionate and empathetic. Hopefully this helps you understand what love really is just in time for Valentine’s Day.
